The Zebra Bus is a 1975 Volkswagen Fleetline Kombi. This is a split-windscreen
Kombi made in Brazil and assembled in South Africa during 1975 (one
year only), some eight years after German production of split-screen
buses had ended in 1967.
The Zebra Bus is basically unmodified. It is powered by a reconditioned
stock 1600cc Volkswagen type1 horizontally opposed, air-cooled,
four cylinder engine. The engine drives through the stock four-speed
manual transmission, which has also been fully overhauled. The brake
system and all wheel bearings have also been renewed. Electrical
system is 12 volt charged by an alternator. The car was painted
white a year ago and has been finished in zebra stripes. The interior
is being custom built for this journey.
